UCR professor and scholar Lindon Barrett was found slain on Sunday in his Long Beach apartment. Barrett was a professor of African American literature and culture and was associate editor of the journal Callaloo. He also authored "Blackness and Value: Seeing Double", a careful inquiry into the relationship between race and value. He was at work on a book about slavery and Western modernity. He held distinguished degrees from York University, UCI and University of Pennsylvania. He was 46 years old.
An investigation into his murder is currently pending.
